20th Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology

(Il)legal organizations and crime

Challenges for contemporary criminology

Bucharest, Romania
09.09. - 12.09.2020

  • The ESC Board reunited online on May 16, 2020 and decided to postpone the EuroCrim2020 Conference in Bucharest to September 2021, due to the global pandemic context. The decision was taken with great sadness, but we are convinced that it is the best way to protect all our members during these times.

  • The following conference will thus take place on 8-11 September 2021 in Bucharest, Romania.

  • In early June we will be back with details about an alternative online event, free for ESC members, in order to gather our community in September 2020. We will then provide more information on the submitted abstracts for Bucharest conference, as well as on the registration fees some of you have already paid.

Conference

Four Days of Powerful Talks
09 - 12.09.2020.
Bucharest

The Bucharest Conference, in addition to dealing with the usual topics criminologists are working on, that can be easily defined as crimes perpetrated by individuals, will also focus on offences committed within different organisational frameworks. While putting together organisational crime and organized crime may seem surprinsing, it is clear that both forms of crime require a certain extent of political, financial or social influence in order to be successfully perpetrated and generally, for both categories, money is the final goal. Nonetheless, the participation of individuals is mandatory. We therefore find the title “(Il)legal organizations and crime: Challenges for contemporary criminology” fitting for the ESC 2020 Bucharest conference, the Easternmost point of ESC conferences and the chosen place for their 20th Anniversary.

EUROCRIM 2020

What is EUROCRIM Conference?

The annual conferences of the Society provide an opportunity for the members to present papers on the results of their own research projects as well as learn about the research being done elsewhere in Europe. The conferences are also an occasion where the members can meet each other and discuss on mutual research interests; the meetings have already proved to be an important platform for new pan-European research initiatives.

At the annual conference a general assembly of the Society is convened to make decisions on the affairs of the Society and to give advice on the board members for their upcoming term.
